Ray Mazey
Providing Mountain Bike Training Courses From 2002 - 2014

A Great But Also A Sad Day.
My Last Instructor Course  14th &15th May 2014

I Will Continue To Provide Mountain Bike Maintenance Courses

Thanks a lot fella's for the feedback below.

Can I firstly say a big thank you to you for a very enjoyable and extremely educational 2 days last week. I think we all learnt an awful lot on both days and we will continue to pass your training techniques onto plenty more young and old cyclists in the future.

I hope you enjoy your retirement from the  leadership courses but continue to pass your skills and expertise on to others.
Thanks Ray - Looking forward to leading my first ride. Your course has definitely given me the tools    and confidence to go forwards.

Dear Ray,

I cannot find the words to describe my feelings after these two amazing days of your course. No, I’m not trying to make you feel nice, but honestly I’m telling you my truth: these two days was the most useful (but also enjoyable) days in my mountain bike life!

Thank you.

ps. I’m sending the photo with my regards to all the wonderful team.

The thing  I will miss without doubt when I finish providing the Instructor Courses, is that I will miss meeting such nice / genuine people. Picture above from Instructor Course on 9/10 April 2014

Cycle Helmet ID

Everything is OK until something goes wrong.

When off road riding, especially when we are alone, we should really consider our safety and minimise risk as much as possible.

Wearing a cycle helmet is a must, and body armour is becoming increasingly more common, even for xc riders.

Leaving your route with a responsible person and maybe regular contact with them, should also be seriously considered.

Carrying ID is better than nothing. However, wearing ID with any details of any medical problems is even better.  Take a look at this article, in which I recommend the helmet type ID -

Once more thank you very much for your input into our work. I am sure this will be of help in our tours.

 Michael Hadjioannou

Being part of the Mountain Bike Team who represented Cyprus in the 2012 London Olympics, Michael and some of the guides had a considerable amount of both mountain biking and coaching experience.  However, I was pleased that they gained the additional knowledge for their roles as mountain bike guides.

Many thanks to Michael from Bikin Cyprus Adventures for his help and hospitality during my time delivering the course in the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus..

I would also like to thank Panayiotis Papadopoulos President  of Platres Community Council for his hospitality and information on the history of this beautiful location.

Piste and Peaks

Thanks to Victoria and Marty http://www.pisteandpeaks.com/ for the photos and review below.

The start of June saw two Qualified Level 2 MIAS mountain bike instructors/guides added to the Piste and Peaks arsenal of helpful, enthusiastic staff. Us. Our love of the mountains and desire to have as much knowledge as possible to help our guests enjoy themselves prompted Victoria and I to train and be evaluated as Level 2 instructors. We also passed our Red Cross First Aid refresher course.

This means that our MTB clients have the peace of mind to go riding with us to the back of far and beyond, having confidence in our local knowledge and ability. Adding to this we now have the evaluation experience and coaching skills required to help riders overcome their fears and to boost confidence. As a result, Piste and Peaks will be adding MTB lessons to our website in the very near future…

The course was held in the UK near Rivington just off the M61 by Ray Mazey who also does skills courses and Maintenance Courses.

http://www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk  check it out – he’s a top bloke! We would recommend any of Ray’s courses as he has a wealth of information on the subject, explains things well, is fair in his evaluations and is a master at what he does. Not a bad rider either.

The area is very picturesque and it was easy to forget that we were working and luckily the weather was perfect. If it wasn’t for the English lanes, fairy tale forests full of bluebells and surrounded by buttercups it could have been South Australia (in Spring). We left with good memories, qualifications and a tan.

Where’s the next course Victoria?

Instructor Course 30/31 October 2012

Soooooooo long since I last posted. I know its really bad of me....Sorry

Big thanks to Kate for these photos :o)

A great group on the Instructor Course on a cold and rainy day at Rivington. I have met some really nice people since I have been providing Instructor Courses over the last 10years, and Kate, Simon, Neil, Noel, Graham and Jason were no exception. Thanks a lot guys, a great day in what I would have to describe as less than ideal conditions. Thank you all for your feedback.
